Grant Guidelines

The St Joe Community Foundation, Inc looks for projects in Bay and Walton counties that promise long-term returns on the quality of life in our region. Grants generally range from $1,000 to $50,000, although larger grants may be available based on determination of need. We look for programs that: Make Bay & Walton Counties an even better place to call homeWork toward a fundamental improvement in the quality of lifeInclude a plan for measuring success and financial accountabilityAre structured for sustainable impactDemonstrate a track record for success, or reasonable probability for success and economic sustainabilityLeverage support in concert with others to better address the greatest challengesPriority is given to 501C3 organizations.

We typically Do Not Fund:

  • Individuals (i.e., scholarships, stipends, fellowships)
  • General Fund-raising events without a specific purpose
  • Health initiatives other than regional health care delivery
  • Political campaigns or proposals
  • Sectarian or religious activities (but will consider community-focused, faith-based initiatives)
  • Individual sports teams

Following receipt of the request, the funding request passes through preliminary screening to see if the project falls within the Foundation guidelines.

Grant approval is made by the Foundation’s Board of Trustees at scheduled meetings. The amount granted is dependent upon the availability of Foundation funds during the grant year.

Suggestions for Improving Your Application:

  • Make the connection! Show the community connection, and discuss the fundamental difference your project will make in the structural or systemic nature of the quality of life in the region.
  • Ask for it! Ask for a specific amount of funding for your specific purpose. It’s a good idea to test your request against our pattern of giving before you ask.
  • Brag! We want to know all your “distinctions,” including competitive funding received, citations and awards, media coverage…anything that demonstrates your organization’s credibility.
  • Put it in context! We may know very little or nothing about your organization, so put yourself in context and make comparisons with similar, well-known organizations, including size, age, ranking, “firsts,” etc. "
