WindMark Beach is within the historic range of the St. Andrews Beach Mouse, yet they have been absent from this part of their historic range for many years. JOE will reestablish a third population into the coastal dune conservation area at WindMark Beach. This will be the second reintroduction of a particular species of beach mouse to private lands in Florida. JOE manages this 103-acre conservation area to benefit the beach mouse, as well as Snowy Plovers and sea turtles. Boardwalks prevent damage to sensitive dune vegetation. Dune restoration using sand fencing and native plants is used after hurricanes to assure quick recovery of storm-damaged beach mouse habitat.
