Meet Principal Brooks and Assistant Principal Urban
It's time to go back to school and there's quite a 'buzz' coming out of Conley Elementary this year as the school is proud to welcome new Principal Laura Brooks and new Assistant Principal Lisa Urban. Both bring a wealth of knowledge and enthusiasm to Conley and they are both ecstatic to begin the 2009-2010 school year.
Laura Brooks comes to Conley after previously serving as Assistant Principal at Hartsfield Elementary. Brooks began her career in the Education Profession by teaching Physical Education and from there she excelled as a Guidance Counselor. 29 years later, Brooks has enjoyed her journey to get to this point in her career and has loved every minute of her profession. "Some of the best people I've known in my life are teachers," says Brooks.
Lisa Urban joins the Conley Family after her previous stint as an Assistant Principal at Belle Vue Middle School. Since her first teaching job at Gilchrist Elementary, she knew from day one she found the right line of work. "It's amazing being able to touch the lives of so many young students and prepare them for the real world," Urban says proudly.
Together, both Brooks and Urban are planning great things at Conley Elementary for the 2009-2010 school year. Brooks states, "We would like to continue to pursue the Primary Years IB Program and make that a reality at Conley." Once the Primary Years IB Program is approved for Conley, the school will become the first elementary school in Northwest Florida to offer a Primary Years IB Program. Students zoned for Conley will be able to take advantage of a continual IB experience throughout their Leon County educational journey as Fairview Middle and Rickards High Schools, which are in the same school district, offer IB programs.
Mrs. Brooks and Mrs. Urban are thrilled to be a part of the Conley Family and the SouthWood community. For more information on Conley Elementary, visit their website.
