Shortly thereafter, Christa and her husband purchased a town home near Florida State University School or commonly called Florida High. They were the first people to move into their section of the newly-constructed St. Joe townhomes, so they took the initiative to welcome each and every new neighbor that moved in their area. “I met about three residents total during the entire time I lived at my previous neighborhood, so SouthWood has been a nice change,” Abbott says. “My husband and I love participating in the wonderful events put on by the Art of Living because we love meeting new people and with the way this place is set up, you have chances to meet new people each and every day!”
When Mrs. Abbott isn’t enjoying the SouthWood life with her husband, you can find her teaching Speech and Language skills from grades Pre-K-5th at the Conley School @ SouthWood, which according to her is only about a “22 minute uphill bike ride” from her house. Heading home is even faster and easier!
Unlike a class that focuses on just one subject or one grade level, Mrs. Abbott’s curriculum allows her to teach daily all Conley grade levels speech and language exercises that they can use for the rest of their lives. Through Abbott’s teachings, students learn how to effectively articulate their verbiage at a young age, and understand everyday language usage, amongst other speech and language teachings. In regards to her career, Abbott says, “My mom was a pre-k teacher and since I was in 3rd grade, I was a teacher’s assistant, I love my job and my curriculum allows me to find the smallest breakdown in a student’s skill and I get to try to fix it.”
